Archeological exhibition
Upon entrance to the castle complex, the first gate offers a modest exhibition of archeological discoveries of the past several years.
Such finds allow us to imagine the everyday lifestyle and education of the castle's previous owners. From the age of the Lords of Landštejn, for example, discoverd objects give evidence of a high spiritual and technical culture. Many iron and bronze book bindings and stylus pencils, a scalpel, highly crafted artistic ceramic objects (ceramic tile stove and dishware), glass items, and more place the Gothic residents of the castle among the highest level of society of the age.
The Krajíř family also left us with rich traces of their wealthy and luxurious life. Among the more interesting is a late Gothic doll made of kaolin (china clay), a pocket sundial marked from 1534, and a lead stopper from a bottle of nostrum with the seal of a pharmacy in Venice, still in operation today.
A large amount of coins from varying periods and from different parts of Europe shows that the castle's owners enjoyed an ambitious relationship with the rest of their world.
Many of these items, and more, are available for viewing at the entrance exhibition.
Landštejn Castle warmly invites you for a visit. History lovers are sure to be pleased!
